Baby Made is owned and operated by Melbourne Mums, Nicole and Ilana who innovate and create modern pregnancy and baby keepsake products for families to treasure for a lifetime. Baby Made began when Nicole was pregnant with her first child and read an article about a celebrity trend in Hollywood of creating pregnant belly casts. Nicole thought it sounded like a bit of fun to do as well as a great way to create a keepsake to remember of this special time in her life. Nicole asked her good friend Ilana, who was a formally trained artist to help her cast her belly, the two had a blast and Ilana painted an amazing design for Nicole’s belly cast to suit her nursery decor.

When other pregnant friends saw Nicole’s finished belly cast they asked for their belly’s to be cast and then friends of friends asked. The demand just grew and grew and before long through word of mouth across Melbourne, Belly Art (former business name) was born. Today, many years later Nicole’s belly cast still brings back fond memories of that time in her life, her shape and her B.T years (Before Teenagers)!
As their business grew, Ilana and Nicole realised there was a huge gap in the market for modern baby keepsakes new parents could do at home. Everything was kitschy or antiquated so they set about creating a range of innovative, baby safe as well as easy to use DIY keepsake products. Today the Baby Made range comprises 12 retail product lines, as well as belly and baby hands & feet plaster sculpture castings made in their Caulfield North Studio by Ilana and the team.
While baby keepsakes may not seem a high priority before baby arrives, we tend to realise in retrospect how important they actually are. Time flies by, we are usually so busy adapting to being a new Mum and trying to cope with the demands of the hardest job in the world, as the saying goes, ‘the days are long but the years are short’. It’s only as the fog of early motherhood begins to lift, sometimes a few years later that we regret not having those tiny fingers and toes with all their glorious wrinkles duplicated into lasting mementos. Were they really so small?
