Jacintha's motherhood story – Quitting alcohol changed my life

Every Sunday morning for years, I woke up extremely hungover, wanting a better life for myself. But I just didn’t know how. I felt so alone. I used to drink a lot. I used to party a lot.

For me, alcohol was a release. I didn’t have confidence in my own abilities so I thought I needed a lift to make my personality shine. I knew life had so much more to give, but I just didn’t know how to get there.

When alcohol was in my system, the downhill spiral effect started. I would get drunk. Then I would eat bad food. Then I would have broken sleep. Then I would get grumpy. Due to lack of sleep and poor nutrition, my skin would break out and I wouldn't want to go out in public because my face resembled a pizza!

Although for years previously I did start to settle down my drinking ways, I knew I needed to make a major lifestyle change, and becoming pregnant (therefore stopping drinking altogether) was just the motivation I needed. How many signs was the universe sending to me!? I had a vision to live an authentic, happy life and this was the perfect time to make the leap.

As soon as I gave birth and saw Axel's face, I knew in that exact moment that nothing else mattered in the world. He was my world. My priorities instantly changed. Something clicked and I went into full mum mode. I wanted to be the best mum I could be.

Being alcohol-free, my mind is clearer. I make better life choices. I eat better. I nourish my body and mind daily. My life simply flows better. I am a much more present mum. I am more mindful and have a natural high on life. Quitting drinking isn't for everyone but it certainly was the best choice for me.

I now own my own a social media agency (which I started while pregnant) and I recently launched a second business venture, all because I found my purpose in life and I choose love over fear. I have gone from having a cluttered, negative mind to focusing on gratitude and the positive aspects in life.

My obsession with alcohol has now been replaced with my love for healthy cooking, exercise, meditation and yoga – which has changed my life.

I am certainly not perfect, but it's something I strive for everyday. I believe everyone is put on this earth to help people in one form or another. My life's purpose is to help, serve and inspire people to become the best versions of themselves. I am very passionate about helping people – especially mums and kids – to find their truth and live a wholesome, happy life. So if you feel a little lost, want a bit more out of life and don't know where to turn, I'm here to inspire you.
